Disinfect or Sanitize?

By Chris Craparo - Posted on 31 December 2007

Disinfectants are used on hard, surfaces and objects to destroy fungus or bacteria, although the spores will not necessarily be destroyed. Sanitizers reduce, but do not necessarily eliminate, microorganisms to levels considered "safe" as determined by public health codes or regultions. Sanitizers generally only kill bacteria, while disinfectants kill bacteria and fungus.
